I am from Northwood, Middlesex, United Kingdom and I am 46 years old.  I’ve been skydiving for 18 years and have made over 2555 skydives during that time.
My professional occupation is Doctor.

My Biography:
I am a Consultant Radiologist at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust in the UK. A significant amount of my work involves the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with cancer. Since 1991, skydiving has been my escape from the pressures of my job and has taken me to some interesting places including the North Pole in 1995 to Thailand in 2008. Through the sport, I have met and made friends with people from all over the world and from all walks of life. I have participated in 4 way and 8 way teams competing at National Championships, as well as large formation skydives in Europe and USA including JFTC 2005.

My Hobbies & Other Interests:
Theatre, Music & Cinema, Pilates for keeping fit and helping my core stability, which is very useful for skydiving!

Why I feel it’s important to participate in JFTC:
In 1998 my mother discovered a lump in her breast and had a lumpectomy, she weathered her time on Tamoxifen and was disease free for 9 years, when she discovered another lump in the same breast and proceeded to mastectomy.
As a doctor, I had developed a degree of resilience to the diagnosis of cancer, for my own self-preservation. However, when it lands in your lap, when you or your best friend, in my case my mother, goes through the process of dealing with cancer and the treatment, I found myself reduced to a mental jelly. However, my mother in her usual way showed strength of character in facing up to her new situation with a “get on with the job” attitude and a certain sense of humour!
I learnt a few lessons from my mother about putting the important things in life into perspective and crossing the bridges as and when. I have applied these not only to my own life and experience of breast cancer, but also my skydiving and my profession and can empathise even better with my patients.

Unfortunately, I and a number of friends and colleagues have been affected by breast cancer.
In honour of all of us, I am participating in this event and would be grateful for your donation to help raise awareness and support research into this disease.
