Participant Profile for Brenda Kramar Last Updated: July 26, 2009
I am from Columbia, South Carolina United States of America and I am 37 years old. I’ve been skydiving for 15 years and have made 1950 skydives during that time. My professional occupation is Retired.
My Biography: I retired from my first career in the IT industry last year after bad disks in my neck (partly skydiving, partly working too hard) made it impossible for me to spend 14 hours a day in front of a computer. Yes - I know it sounds funny to say I had to retire from desk work but I'm still able to skydive. Activity is better - really! Who knows what the next career will be or if there will be another one. For now, my job is to take care of our home and my wonderfully supportive husband. I'm learning to cook using good, whole foods and am volunteering at a local organic farm this summer. We are eating less processed food and feeling stronger and healthier than ever. I've learned that stay-at-home wives have a very under-appreciated job!
I've been skydiving 15 years. For many of those years, big-way skydiving was my passion. Then I discovered 8-way. I love 8-way! Skydiving Accomplishments: Women's World Record (JFTC): 1999, 2002, 2005 World Team 2004 357-way World Record US Nationals 8-way Intermediate Gold (2008), Intermediate Silver (2007) AFF Instructor
My Hobbies & Other Interests: Reading, taking walks, birding, eating good food, learning to cook good food This year I've also been teaching myself to quilt using my grandmother's wonderful quilts (all hand-pieced and hand-quilted) as inspiration.
Why I feel it’s important to participate in JFTC: When smart, strong, amazing women come together for a common purpose, wonderful things happen. You cannot imagine and I cannot begin to describe the positive energy that surrounds this event. There are cancer survivors on this record. There are women who know cancer survivors and women who have lost good friends and close family members to cancer. I enjoy JFTC because of the camaraderie among all the participants - not just the women but also the husbands, boyfriends, friends....everyone working together, supporting, and encouraging each other. JFTC to me is about rising to a challenge - physically, mentally, financially - world records always push you for more...more mental focus, more physical toughness, (more money!). It certainly isn't the same kind of challenge that a breast cancer patient goes through but it IS a challenge nonetheless. Not many people are given the opportunity to take something for which they have such a passion and use it to accomplish something so big.
