Participant Profile for Jo Hawley Last Updated: April 28, 2009
I am from London, United Kingdom and I am 30 years old. I’ve been skydiving for 7 years and have made 1000 skydives during that time. My professional occupation is Civil Servant.
My Biography: Having got the bug doing a tandem 7 years ago, I'm now a keen big way jumper, regularly jumping with Skydive Choreography in the UK and have attended P3 100 way camps and this year's Texas State Record attempts in the US. I'm also an obsessed 4 way jumper. I'm inside centre on UK team Kaizen (meaning "continuous improvement") having previously been point and am loving learning a new slot this year, although I don't like the IC bruises! I also really enjoy doing FS coaching both in the air and in the tunnel. I've also jumped in Spain, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Croatia...and hope to add many more countries to that list in the years to come!
My Hobbies & Other Interests: I started running as part of my keep fit programme for 4 way, but have really got into it and now run regularly. I've competed in a 10k race last year and a half marathon this year (maybe this is the response to my crisis as I head past 30!). I am doing another half after the skydiving season ends to try to improve my time. I also wish I could find more time to devoted to my neglected snowboarding skills and after taking a scuba diving course in Lanzarote this winter, I want to do some more of that very soon.
Why I feel it’s important to participate in JFTC: I lost my best friend Rebecca last year to a cancer-related illness. I will be jumping in her memory. JFTC is a great statement for women everywhere about what we can achieve when we try. Girl power!
