Flying Angels

flying-angel-logo-09Hello JFTC Participants!

As the requests have been many, we have decided once again to offer our very special sponsorship program, the “Flying Angel” program.

Many of our veteran participants will recall how in 2002 and 2005 we offered this special program, where your sponsors purchased one of our hand made fabric cozies that bears the name of a loved one in pink embroidery. These cozies are then wrapped around the chest strap of your rig (w/ Velcro), worn on every one of the JFTC record attempts, in honor of the person named, carrying them close to your heart. A sample is pictured below.
flyingangelexample

Janet Lundquist has agreed again to organize the program, and Bev Hein (Bev Suits) will again share her talents and personally make each individual cozy. This is a big job, and takes quite a bit of additional time, both prior to the event, during the event when individual portraits will be taken, and after the event to ensure that each and every cozy is returned to your sponsor. And, because it takes time to make each cozy by hand, we must have an official cut-off date, which is August 31, just three weeks prior to the event. Telling your sponsors today will ensure that your cozy will be done in plenty of time before the event.

The cost of this very unique memento is a donation of just $100. With that $100 donation, your sponsor will receive the actual cozy that was worn by you, on all the JFTC skydives, in a gift box, along with a photo from the event. This special incentive program is like no other, and therefore cannot be joined with any other donations, and is not retroactive. With the sale of one Flying Angel sponsorship comes a big responsibility, too. The JFTC participants not only wear the honoree’s name on each skydive, they will also help our Flying Angel team present the cozy back to your sponsor upon completion of the event.
It would be a wonderful thing to see each and every participant join in this project. If each JFTC participant sold just one of these cozies, the entire formation would bear the names of loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. What a way to raise awareness! Below is a sample of one of our Flying Angel cozies, and attached is an order form. Please make sure that you have the name of your honoree spelled carefully, exactly as it is to be embroidered. We cannot be held accountable for your spelling mistakes.

If you have any questions about the program, your tasks as a Flying Angel participant, or the order form, please e-mail Janet Lundquist: janet@LightSourceGraphX.com. Thank you all for joining us in this very special program that is guaranteed to raise awareness and ultimately raise additional funds for the City of Hope.

As a thank you for raising money for Jump for the Cause, Perris Valley Skydiving School and Perris SkyVenture are awarding participants Indoor and Outdoor skydives, at no cost to themselves, when certain target fundraising goals are reached.

  • For Indoor Skydiving (two flights in our indoor skydiving simulator), participants must raise a minimum of $99 for Jump for the Cause.
  • For both Indoor and Outdoor Skydiving (Sensory Overload), participants must raise a minimum of $300 for Jump for the Cause.

To SIGN UP please visit http://www.skydiveperris.com/calendar/jftctandem.html

Ask your friends and family to donate to this great cause and see you face your fears and actually do a skydive! You just need 5 friends to donate $20 each, and you’re already eligible for indoor skydiving! With just 15 friends donating $20 each, they’ll see you actually jump out of a perfectly good airplane too!

July 2009

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Greetings to the wonderful women of JFTC!

July is upon us and we have just over two short months before we start the event of the year–Jump for the Cause.

A few reminders:
FAI Paperwork: Please send copies of your current (2009) FAI membership to Adrian Davies adriandavies@live.com He is creating a book for the judges so they can have all the paperwork confirmed prior to the event. If your FAI Membership cannot be confirmed on site you will NOT be allowed to make record jumps. Sending it in early allows the judges to check it in advance.

Skydive Perris Waivers: The Skydive Perris Waivers are now available for downloading HERE Please fill these out and return to Adrian Davies Fax at : 310-693-2563 All women who return Waivers and FAI paperwork to Adrian before 1 August will receive a complimentary drink ticket from Adrian personally–now THAT is an incentive!
USPA membership is required at Skydive Perris unless you hold memberships from the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Japan, Korea, South Africa, Sweden, or Switzerland. JFTC participants from countries not listed above will need to purchase a USPA membership in order to jump at Perris.

If you have never joined USPA than you can purchase a temporary(90 days) membership for $20 or annual membership for $74. Anyone who has been a previous member of USPA (including prior temporary memberships) must get an annual membership for $64. JFTC apologizes for this additional costs to some of our participants, but it is a requirement that we do not have control over.

ID Badges: ID badges will go into making next week. These will include the photo that you have attached to your JFTC website profile. If you have not yet forwarded your photo (or if it is deemed unusable) then it will not be possible to incorporate it on your pre-printed ID card. You will then use an ID badge that doesn’t look near as cool as the ones the rest of your teammates are using. We will not chase anyone for missing photos. Please consider it your own responsibility to have your website profile fully updated with the photo. If you cannot upload a photograph to the website then either contact Dawn Suiter for aid or email the photo directly to Karina Willerup

Hotel/Jumpsuit: You all should have been in contact with Karina Willerup about your housing during JFTC and your jumpsuit. Please don’t make her chase these answers. Karina just spent a week in California with Adrian and Mallory checking out the hotels and planning so that OUR event will be as fantastic as possible.
Karina will send out a separate email next week in regards to payments for extra hotel nights and non JFTC room sharing participants.

Money: Many of you have been sending money into Doug Spesert <.”dspesert@socal.rr.com> THANK YOU! Over 10% of the load has met or exceeded their minimum donation amount. That is fantastic news and puts us even closer to our goal of raising One MILLION dollars to fight Breast Cancer!

Perris Valley Skydiving has created a very exciting way to allow the general public (non jumpers) to contribute to JFTC and experience the gift of flight. They are offering a way for anyone to raise money for JFTC and receive a Tandem jump, Tunnel time–or BOTH! Contact Shazza Kindsvater and check the Skydive Perris website for further information. If you have friends, co workers, or family in the So Cal area this is the way to get them to join in on the JFTC fun and make a jump or do Tunnel time during the week of the event.

P3 Big Way Camp: Registration is open for the 3-6 September P3 Big Way Camp being held at Perris. This is a perfect way to polish your big way skills in a no fault format using the same aircraft and at the same dropzone hosting JFTC. http://www.skydiveperris.com/calendar/bigwaycamp0909.asp.

JFTC Documentary: Gulcin Gilbert is creating a documentary about JFTC and would like for all participants to fill out the following questionnaire and return it to her at Gulcin Gilbert You can download the document at: www.jumpforthecause.com/docs09/documentary.doc

The Flying Angels embroidered chest strap cozy program
Flying Angels has received more orders for chest strap cozys than people to wear them. If you are willing to wear an embroidered chest strap cozy in memory of somebody’s loved one who has battled cancer then please contact janet lundquist Remember the deadline for having a cozy embroidered with a love one’s name is 31 August… don’t delay and miss out!

Skydiving: Thank you to all the wonderful women who I’ve met and jumped with this summer. It’s great to see the quality of women skydivers worldwide increasing every year. Remember to stay current through this summer so that you are ready to tackle the challenges of JFTC. We have a VERY ready, willing and able K plane who ARE current and will be more than happy to take any slot between now and the record jump! Don’t take your slot for granted…We will need the best and strongest roster to build a new world record. If you are planning on being on that record please make sure you ARE one of the best and strongest women on the load.

Hannah Betts would like to know if any women are interested in a 4/8/16 way skills camp AFTER JFTC at Perris with her and some other world class female skydivers. Please contact her directly for further information.

A letter from Mallory:
To the ladies of JFTC:
We have a media tool available to you now to use both for gaining sponsorship and for publicizing the event and your participation in it.
Gulcin Gilbert, a JFTC participant and her production company, Warp8, have created a 2 minute promotional video utilizing footage from the 2005 record jump. This video is available now for you to use.
http://www.phonics4babies.com/JumpForTheCauseMediaFootage/JumpForTheCauseMediaFootage.mov
One possible use is to contact the local news affiliate in your area and suggest they run a feature on Jump For The Cause using you “the local participant” as a hook or lead for the story. You would provide them with the DVD and press release about JFTC which would include fundraising details and some information about yourself. The station might also opt to interview you and run the DVD or parts of it in the background or to enhance the story.
The DVD may also be used to send to your potential corporate sponsors, along with your fundraising proposal to enhance your chances of success.
Please contact Adrian Davies, Event Coordinator at
adriandavies@live.com to obtain a DVD.

Thank you to all who have done so much behind the scenes to make Jump for the Cause the best event ever! See you soon….

April 2009

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Greetings!

The pages are flying off the calendar now and before we know it September and JFTC will be here! I’m starting a very busy stretch of skydiving but will continue to make JFTC my first priority. This is the 8th monthly newsletter (!) for this event (all the old ones can be found in the Archives to the right side of your screen) and we have only a few more to go before September rolls around…

I think you all are quite aware of the old business and what you need to do. I’ll not bother you again–simply know that if for any reason you do not have the proper paperwork, equipment (i.e. right color jumpsuit), skills, or donation amounts raised you will not be on the record setting jumps. The fine women of the K Plane will be ready, willing and able to step up and take your place. Simple enough.

Karina is working with Richard on administration–remember to contact her first: Karina Willerup as Richard’s time is very tight until he is finished with school.   Dawn is working on the website and everyone who has filled out profile pages and/or registration forms should now be shown on the site–if you aren’t then please contact me and I’ll work with Dawn to fix that.   If there is a spelling error on your name–first or last–or you want to be listed under a different last name, then please contact me directly and I’ll coordinate with Richard, Dawn and Karina to make sure our records match. Our newest recruit–Caroline Hughes caroline.hughes@btinternet.com , is working closely with me to help assemble potential names for K plane–the women who will make up the essential bench team for JFTC. You may contact her directly if you have any questions about this team.

Tony’s formation is up with exit orders (there have been and will continue to be changes) at http://www.jumpforthecause.com/formation_info.html and you can see Craig Poxon’s great application where photographs (where available!) have been superimposed onto the formation. Mallory and Andrea are working with many different potential sponsors and I’m looking forward to some great news in that area. Remember you can contact them directly if you have any leads: Mallory Lewis , Andrea Curthoys

IMPORTANT: If you are interested in being considered for K plane please fill out a participation request form (if you have not already done so) here: http://www.jumpforthecause.com/docs09/ParticipationRequestJFTC09.doc and a profile page for JFTC at this link: http://jftc.jumpforthecause.com/register.html Filling out these forms will NOT reduce your chances of being chosen for JFTC–in fact you showing your interest will increase your options. We will be selecting the K plane participants–each person to be a full member of the JFTC team — from the women who show interest and skill in the next month. Note that the K plane women do not necessarily have to meet the 100 way “in the last year” requirement since you will be receiving top level coaching from Caroline and others on site with the specific goal of being in the record formation. The K Planers WILL have to prepare by having jumpsuit, FAI paperwork, and donations so don’t delay once you are contacted. The donation amount for K plane WILL be less than for a JFTC member with a guaranteed slot. You will receive the exact costs and requirements when you receive your invitation letter. This will also allow women who have doubts that they can raise the complete $3,500 choose K plane as an option to a “front slot” on JFTC.

The Jump for the Cause Shopping site is now up:

http://www.jumpforthecause.com/shopping.html and you can see both clothing from Cafe Press (contact Richard for bulk purchase pricing) and fantastic pink sapphire jewelry from our very own Bambi Knight available that will raise money “for the cause”. If a participant wants to list other items on this page please contact Dawn directly ds@dawnsuiter.com .

I look forward to seeing many of you in the following weeks as my travels take me to the USA (Texas, California, Arizona), Norway, Poland, Belgium, Ireland, and Sweden. I am personally committed to making this JFTC the BEST SKYDIVING EVENT ever seen in the history of our sport and I kindly invite each and every one of you to make the same pledge!

Blue skies, pink suits, big goals!
